10 Things That Make a Great Road Trip-Food Pt. 7
Ahh, where do I even begin?!?!
When people going on vacation, some look forward to go shopping, for others it maybe to go see beautiful things or to experience different cultures…but for me, I look forward to great meals.
Growing up I never quite understood why every single family gathering was over food, but finally I’m starting to understand the purity and the common safe ground that is offered when sharing a meal.
Breaking bread is universal, and bread is also delicious right?!
Here are some of the highlight meals we had during our Canadian East Coast trip:
The Lost Anchor (8572 Cavendish Rd, New Glasgow, PE C0A 1N0)

A delicious crab cake appetizer to start off lunch. We ate this after a hike I believe. Hunger is the best spice lol.

Battered Cod, so good. The texture of the fish was delightful, flakey, soft but still a cohesive sweet bite. And the tartar sauce? ugh.

A delicious bowl of Clam Chowder I ordered. Wasn’t expecting the giant clam with the soup, it was SO good.
Sims Corner Steakhouse & Oyster Bar (86 Queen St, Charlottetown, PE C1A 4A7)

First time having Partridge Berry Jam, it was familiar but yet so different. Homemade jams are the best.

This breakfast skillet was AMAZING. Where do I start? The caramelized onions was infused with rosemary-every bite had this undertone of earthiness from the herbs and high notes of sweetness from the slow cooked onions. Then you got some mid tones from the poached egg to round out these flavours. THEN, you have like this expertly crafted potato hash brown bite to bring it all together. Potatoes I think just take TIME to make, it’s not a particularly expensive ingredient but I respect restaurants when they serve something that just takes TIME to make very well.

Classic Steak and Eggs. My friend enjoyed this tremendously as well!
Baddeck Lobster Suppers (17 Ross St, Baddeck, NS B0E 1B0)

What a novel idea. All you can eat mussels and clam chowder to start, then you get mains! ugh.

Wood Plank Grilled Salmon. The fish was so light and fluffy. Not dry at all and perfectly cooked.

My main was the lobster. I may or may not have had two lobster meals that day 8)
Black Spoon Bistro (320 Commercial St, North Sydney, NS B2A 1C2)

Gotta love it when restaurants give you complimentary fresh bread to start.

Blackened Fish. Lovely change of pace from the regular palette of what we were eating.

Sun dried Tomato and Vodka Sauce Pasta I believe. Was so good from just the few bites I had!

My Seafood Pasta. Unbelievable how amazing the mussels tasted, my friend was saying actually this was the best mussel he had on the trip. The texture was perfect (not rubbery) and the flavour was mild in the best sense (subtly sweet and not an overpowering taste of the sea).
Bonavista Social Club (Upper Amherst Cove, NL A0C 2A0)

This restaurant had this farm to table and sustainability concept. The lettuce we ate came from this patch just outside the restaurant.

Fresh Bread. Salt and Pepper Butter. So good!

Wine and Pizza? Sign me up.

Pepper Flake Bae.

But seriously, this was amazing wood oven pizza.

My pesto based pizza. There wasn’t a slice left over ahahah.

Dessert was phenomenal. My words can’t express how good this was. This was the Bread Pudding

My Coconut Cream Pie/Tart. The crust was to die for. Perfectly crumbly and solid enough to contain the coconut cream. Ughhhh.

Blue Berry Cheesecake in a jar. Wow.

This photo encapsulates everything about this restaurant and basically the trip.

And to top off the amazing food. This was the view. 100% recommend eating here.
I LOVE food man, ughhhh~
