10 Things That Make a Great Road Trip-All The Small Things Pt. 6

The previous post talked about the one big thing in your trip that you planned around, but I think there’s another thing that’s great, and those are the smaller things that catch you by surprise.

I’m going to write a little less on this one and just let the images and captions speak for themselves.

The overarching theme for this however is, I think we humans just really like to be surprised. I think some of the best films I’ve ever watched was due the fact that I had NO expectations going into them.

That sort of discovery and being caught off guard makes the experience even better! It fills out the long trip with detail and nuances that give stories to share. I’ve become quite fond of these little moments!

Here are some of the things that caught me by complete surprise:

Cape Breton Skyline Trail-what a beautiful little hike! Ocean, Mountains, beautiful scenery, you name it! When we planned the trip I knew this was going to be great, but to be there in person…just wow!

Pseudo Selfie! Cabot Trail was an amazing drive for the automotive enthusiast in me. Every type of corner you’d want, elevation change, AND beautiful scenery. The Dream.

A cute little black bear! Stopped every car along the way and almost caused an accident.

Just the most wonderful Air BnB I’ve stayed at, totally caught me by surprise after a long day of travel. Amazing curated decor, thoughtful touches in every area of the guest experience, Eleanor’s rental was amazing.

Fortress of Louisberg. I can’t believe this was all rebuilt using old techniques from the ground up to be a replica of what once stood. Sometimes we humans can accomplish great things.

Louisberg Lighthouse, the light was just amazing when we got there. Sunset would have been amazing but this was also splendid.

I just vividly remember telling myself: “It doesn’t get any better than this”. And I think I still stand by that thought.

C’mon, Gros Morne just ain’t fair.

This was from the Gros Morne Western Brook Pond boat tour, we originally were not supposed to go onto this tour but it caught me by surprise. It was so cool to experience something that would require an overnight hike in just a two hour round trip. Crazy how technology makes things accessible huh?

Fun story. This was at Cape Spear and when we there, whales were actually breaching to catch a breath. However, just when I turned my back to reposition for a photograph, a whale came up and I LITERALLY just missed it because I moved. Funny how moments go by THAT quickly.
